Fun And Games With Donny & Marie On 'Rosie'

There was a party of sorts on the set of "The Rosie Show" on Monday in Chicago.
Donny and Marie Osmond were in the house with a room full of fans sporting everything from Osmond T-shirts to posters from the '70s, old record albums, Donny pillowcases, Osmond calendars and Donny and Marie dolls. |
The famous siblings were the featured guests on "The Rosie Show," the new talk show starring actress/comedian Rosie O'Donnell, which debuted in October on Oprah Winfrey's OWN Network.
The show is taped at Oprah's Harpo Studios in Chicago, former home of Winfrey's famed talk show. "The Rosie Show" airs 6 p.m. daily in Chicago.
During Monday's taping, which aired on Tuesday, O'Donnell talked with the singers about their three-week engagement of "Donny and Marie: Christmas in Chicago" at The Oriental Theatre running through Dec. 24 and other happenings in their lives.
They chatted about Marie's recent marriage; Donny's grandkids; other family members; the duo's new album and even rehashed and laughed about Donny having to wear a dog costume to sing "Puppy Love" to Rosie in apology for making a comment about O'Donnell's weight on her former 1990's talk show. And of course, Rosie replayed the film clip.
The Osmonds performed the hit "A Beautiful Life" from their latest album "Donny and Marie" and even helped two contestants play a quiz game.
Being part of the audience at this taping of "The Rosie Show" was truly a bit of fun and games and a feel-good step back in time.
During breaks, Rosie, as well as Donny and Marie, interacted with audience members, answered questions and readily signed autographs. There was no stuffy star atmosphere here as Donny frequently went into the audience area to take pictures with fans and even gave hugs.
The taping process from beginning to end was about three hours.
When guests arrive at the studio, they're given forms to fill out giving the station permission to film them. Prior to being seated in the studio, guests wait upstairs where music plays and the room is abuzz as trvia questions about Rosie and her show flash across monitors.
Guests can enjoy gourmet cupcakes and bottled water as they wait. Once in the studio, the audience is primed for the show as warm-up comedian John Dacosse performs and they're given instructions by the staff. An animated audience is necessary so everyone prior to this taping had to practice clapping, cheering and swooning.
House band Katreece and the Boys also warmed up with a few tunes.
After the filming, audience members were given goodies to take home, including Snuggies, an insulated lunch bag emblazoned with "The Rosie Show" and filled with assorted items such as Donny and Marie's new cd; and more. Cake balls from Chicago's Bleeding Hearts Bakery were also given away.
